Farnum Cellulose Insulators

Annie and I  are big fans of Farnum Insulation. Our house always had a cool edge in the winter but not any more. The work that was done was smart and not particularly expensive. It has made a very noticeable difference especially when the wind and snow are howling outside.  I am also a big promoter of your energy audit. It was in fact the place to start. It gave us a visual image of where the cold air was coming in and a game plan that we could implement over time.
You guys Rock!

Using a blower door and infrared camera we can identify air leaks in your home. Small leaks throughout a home account for thirty percent of heat loss, on average.

Cellulose Insulation in New and existing homes
Cellulose insulation is made from recycled paper products treated with boric acid to prevent fire, mold and pest infiltration.
We install cellulose in several ways:
  • Loose Fill – refers to insulation blown mainly in an open attic space creating a thermal blanket.
  • Dense Pack- involves blowing insulation under pressure behind a synthetic netting that is stapled to the studs
  • Damp Spray – this method is used almost exclusively in new construction. As dry cellulose is blown from the application hose, a small amount of water spray is added activating the starches in the cellulose so that it adheres to the surface of the wall cavity.
  • Closed Cell Spray foam: is a 2 part plastic that is applied onto surfaces such as basement walls, rimboards and wall cavities. Its high R-Value serves as a superior insulation product.
